José María López delighted with double World Championship
José María López won the second FIA World Touring Car Championship in a row at Buriram, Thailand. The Argentinian won the first race, which would have handed him the title regardless of Citroën Racing team-mate Yvan Muller’s position, although the Frenchman retired out of contact at the first lap.
“The first thought I have in my head is to thank the people who have been around me, my family, my girlfriend,” said ‘Pechito’. “My team of course has been absolutely outstanding, I would not be here without them. They gave me the opportunity to compete with my team-mates at the same level, so I want to thank all the group, my team-mates, the mechanics, engineers, everyone at Citroën.”
The Citroën driver praised his team-mates, whose level pushed him into improvements: “The fight we had inside the team pushed all of us to a higher level, all three of them (Sébastien Loeb, Yvan Muller and Ma Qing Hua) are very strong and they were a great motivation. This was a fantastic championship for me in a great series, with a fantastic atmosphere. I knew it was going to be hard, so this is an amazing result. Looking at the competition the level is very high, so it adds even more taste to a very sweet victory.”
The Argentinian also confirmed that discussions are in process with Citroën to continue together next year: “Obviously the intention on both sides is to keep on racing together, I love the team and I have enjoyed great success with them. Of course we are still in the middle of discussions, but the intention is surely to continue together.”
