Rob Huff happy with points despite grid penalty

Rob Huff was hit by a penalty when his windows were found to be below the minimum thickness allowed by the rules, which sent him to the back of the grid for both races. Despite this, the former World Champion managed to score points in both races at Buriram, Thailand, also doing some spectacular overtakes in the process.

“In race 1 I was lucky to be honest, a lot of cars were out of the race very soon,” admitted the Brit to TouringCarTimes. “I still had a lot of fun overtaking, especially my move on Tiago (Monteiro) was really good, I think.”

The second heat was different for the Lada Sport Rosneft driver, though, as he seemed to lack pace compared to the cars around him: “In the second race we didn’t really have the same pace as the others, which was a shame. It seems the Hondas improved a lot between the two races with setup, but I am now eighth in the championship and I think that starting last after my penalty and finishing sixth and seventh is a good result.”

Rob Huff had managed to overtake Tom Chilton in the second race, but the red flag meant his efforts were useless. Despite this, the driver is not upset: “I’m just happy that we scored points, obviously two sixth places would have been better than what we had, but I am still satisfied with the outcome of the races.”

The Brit is looking forward to Qatar and hopes to finish as high as possible in the championship: “I’m excited for Qatar, it’s the last race of the championship, so we need to be clever with all three drivers to make sure that we finish as high as possible in the championship. The Lada Sport Rosneft team is starting to work really well, we have good stability and three really good drivers, which is good. We need to repair Nicky (Catsburg)’s car for Qatar, hopefully that will be possible.”
