Yvan Muller disappointed with two short races

Yvan Muller had to retire from both races today at Buriram, Thailand. The Frenchman, who was still in with a mathematical chance of winning the title, practically lost it when he stopped due to an accident in the first lap of the first race.

“I couldn’t even do a lap in two races,” explained the Citroën driver. “Someone touched me in the back first, I went sideways and managed to get back straight, and then bang!, someone else touched me and broke my wheel, so that was it for me in race 1.”

The Frenchman went on to explaining the incident in the second heat: “In race 2 I braked at the first corner and had a contact with (team mate) Ma (Qing Hua), it was not a light touch but not a big hit either, but sometimes when you make contact you have the wheel in the wrong position and so the race was over after that for me.”

With the championship now officially in José María López’s hands the Citroën driver says it will not modify his approach to the weekend: “Nothing changes for me, I knew the championship was over. I know the maths said it was still possible, but for me it was gone long ago, so in Qatar I will do my best as usual. It was not realistic to think I would win it. I will go into Qatar with no expectations, we will see what happens there.”
