Tom Coronel will not repeat ‘stunning’ Paul Ricard performance

Tom Coronel managed to get into Q3 at Paul Ricard, but was outside the top ten in testing at Slovakiaring. The Dutchman does not think he will be able to repeat the feat this weekend.

“In France we did something special,” said Coronel to TouringCarTimes. “The performance there was so stunning and unexpected that if I repeat that here I will kiss everyone in the paddock.”

The ROAL Motorsport driver explained the reason why he had an issue at the start at Paul Ricard: “Our start is completely manual. If you do it like that it can happen sometimes that you stall, it also happened several times to other Chevrolets last year. It’s a shame I did a fantastic start in the opening race and a really poor one when it mattered.”

Despite the low chances of doing more than he achieved in France, the Dutchman remains optimistic: “The car is not bad, we tried a different solution this morning and it didn’t work. I am still optimistic and I think we can have some good results. Sometimes it is also my turn to take the glory!”

Coronel finished today’s session 12th outright, just ahead of former team-mate Tom Chilton.
