Mehdi Bennani impressed with Citroën team work

Mehdi Bennani scored pole position in the privateers’ WTCC Trophy. The Moroccan is happy with the progress made compared to this morning, when all Citroëns seemed to struggle.

“The whole team worked a lot, we struggled in free practice and I was not optimistic at that moment,” admitted Bennani. “In Q1 I was fourth, so I knew I could fight to get in the third segment, but it did not happen. I only had one set of tyres, so I knew it would be difficult to get through to the top five.”

Bennani is now optimistic ahead of tomorrow’s races, and believes the turnaround is down to a team effort at Sébastien Loeb Racing and even the help provided by the works team: “We are starting from the front row tomorrow, and that’s good news. I think we improved a lot since this morning, and that’s down to the hard work done by the team. The drivers, the engineers and the mechanics all worked together, we have help from the factory team, and that kind of changed the direction this weekend seemed to have taken.”

Bennani’s pole position gives him an extra point in the WTCC Trophy.
