MAC3 result clarified, Honda win, while both Citroën and Lada score points

The FIA has confirmed that Honda are the winners of the third MAC3 event in Hungary, but have clarified the decisions which allocated 30-second penalties to drivers Mehdi Bennani and Hugo Valente, the outcome of which will relegate Citroën to second in the results.

The official stewards decisions, Nos. 4 and 5, applied 30-second penalties to both Hugo Valente and Mehdi Bennani, which would have put both drivers over 15 seconds behind the leading car in the new-for-2016 manufacturer competition, which by the regulations would mean no points are scored.

The FIA has moved to clarify that the penalty is applied to the manufacturers’ time as a whole, though for the purposes of the stewards decision it was worded to refer to the offending car and driver.

As a result, Honda win their second MAC3 of the season, with Citroën classified in second, 29.8 seconds behind the Japanese marque with Lada’s position still unchanged, scoring six points with third.

Honda now lead the manufacturers’ standings by seven points over Citroën, with Lada 88 points further adrift with Volvo 152 points behind Honda, with the Swedish marque unable to compete as it only fields two cars in the championship.
