Yvan Muller agrees driving standard advisers would be good for the championship

Yvan Muller finished this morning’s session at Marrakech, Morocco, in the top five, putting his Citroën C-Elysée in fifth, although half a second shy of Tiago Monteiro, who was fourth in the Honda Civic.

The Frenchman still does not know how things will pan out for the rest of the weekend: “I don’t know where we are, we had just one session,” said the Citroën driver to TouringCarTimes. “We will see tomorrow in qualifying where we are, because that’s the most important session of the weekend.”

Muller believes that the weight difference between the C-Elysées and the Honda Civics will not affect the tyres, but rather the brakes, as there is little room to cool them down due to the short straights: “The problem will not be the tyres, but more about the brakes, because there are three big braking points and there is no chance to cool them down, so it may be a problem in the races.”

After the incident at Hungaroring with Honda’s Rob Huff the Brit called for the reinstatement of driving standard advisers.

Although Muller agrees with his former team-mate, he is convinced that would not have changed the penalty awarded to the Honda driver: “For sure having a driving standard adviser would be great, but it wouldn’t have changed the fact he got a penalty. He pushed me twice on the same corner, although when I was behind him I passed him very cleanly. That’s not the right way to do it, otherwise everyone will be able to do the same. That probably cost me a win, he got a penalty and that is fine for me. I did things which were similar to what he did in Hungary and I was penalised as well, so it’s normal. Anyway, like I said, having the same stewards for the entire season would surely help.”

Muller is fifth in the championship, 52 points behind team-mate José María López.
