Rob Huff surprised his Q3 lap was enough for pole position

Rob Huff took his first ever pole position for Honda Racing in Marrakech, Morocco, leading a 1-2-3 for the Japanese manufacturer. The Brit was on cloud nine after the team’s result, as well as for his own pole position.

“What an incredible achievement today by Honda Racing, absolutely amazing,” commented Huff. “I think we were fairly confident coming here, we also lost some weight compared to Hungary and this track pretty much suits the strengths of the car, the stability under braking, the traction and the driveability, everything was working very, very well. I am surprised my Q3 lap was enough, I made a couple of mistakes,” admitted the Brit.

Looking on to tomorrow’s races, Huff agrees overtaking will be difficult, but the unpredictability given by the street tracks might shake up the order.

“As on every street circuit it’s going to be very difficult, but ultimately you never know. We’ve seen many times big crashes at turn one on street tracks, if someone in front of you has a problem it’s really difficult. I really had to back out when Norbert (Michelisz) clipped the wall, and he only just touched it, so imagine if someone hits it hard and then bounces back to hit the wall on the opposite side.”

Huff will share the front row with team-mate Norbert Michelisz in the main race, which will start at 17:15 local time.
