Thed Björk hoping for ‘best ever result’ in Marrakech opening race

Thed Björk qualified in eighth at Marrakech, Morocco. The Polestar Cyan Racing driver missed out on Q3 by little more than one tenth, but admits he was on the limit in his Volvo S60 Polestar TC1.

“I tried to do several laps, but this was the limit of the car today,” admitted the Swede to TouringCarTimes. “I tried to push and I am really happy I got the car back to the garage in one piece. As usual, we are trying to learn because this track is completely different compared to the others. My pace was fine, I was quite close to Q3, which is not bad, but as a racing driver of course you want more. I am there, trying hard, and that feels good.”

When asked about what he believes he can achieve in the races, the Swede said his hopes are high: “It really depends on how it goes, what the guys in front will do and how good my start will be. It’s going to be interesting, maybe it’s time for our best ever result, as it’s the highest I have started so far, so I’m looking forward to a great race.”

The Volvo driver admits the start will be the most important phase of the race, although he hopes he will be able to exploit any mistakes made by the drivers ahead of him: “The start will be crucial. If someone makes a mistake you can always sneak through, but otherwise it is going to be really, really difficult. Of course I will make full use of my experience from my races in Sweden on narrow tracks. I more or less know what to expect from the others, and the level of the drivers is really high. Anyway it’s easy to make a small mistake, and I will try to make use of that if the opportunity comes, but my strategy will be to have a smooth race and finish it, then we’ll see what the result is.”

Björk scored his best result of the season in Hungary, coming fourth in the main race.
