Honda’s appeal against exclusion to be heard on Thursday

The Honda Racing Team JAS team’s appeal against their exclusion from the third and fourth meetings of this year’s World Touring Car Championship will be heard by the FIA International Court of Appeal in Paris tomorrow, June 9th.

Honda were excluded from the two race meetings in Hungary and Morocco due to technical irregularities found by the FIA technical delegate at the Hungaroring. The investigation continued on until the run-up to the fifth meeting at the Nürburgring, when the team were excluded by the stewards of the weekend on Thursday night.

Honda immediately signalled their intention to appeal the ruling, stating “we are totally convinced that our flat floors are in full compliance with the current FIA World Touring Car Championship technical regulations.”

The team’s results from Germany are unaffected as the team then switched back to a flat floor of previous design.

If their appeal is unsuccessful, they will lose the results of both weekends, with Tiago Monteiro slipping from second in the standings to sixth, with Norbert Michelisz becoming the team’s best-placed driver in fifth, on less than half of championship leader José María López’s tally.
