Lada win their first MAC3 of the WTCC at their home circuit in Russia
Lada have followed up their best career qualifying result of a 1-2-3 with their first win in the MAC3 time trial event at Moscow Raceway, securing another ten points towards the manufacturers’ championship.
Lada were up first in the post-qualifying team pursuit, after their drivers had just participated in the top five shootout. Even though Catsburg had a slow getaway from the line, the three Vestas still set the best time over two laps, again held in wet conditions.
Honda were up next, and the three Civics of Rob Huff, Norbert Michelisz and Tiago Monteiro fell away in each sector to finish second, just six-tenths of a second behind, while manufacturers’ points leaders Citroën had a disastrous MAC3, with Yvan Muller struggling with his tyre pressures and falling back behind the privateer C-Elysée of Tom Chilton on the road, with the French marque finishing 3.5 seconds behind.
Lada gain another ten points in the manufacturers’ championship, with Honda picking up eight and Citroën six.
