Bernardo Llaver leads a Fiat 1-2 in Oberá, taking his first solo career win
Bernardo Llaver took his first solo win in the Argentinian Super TC 2000 Championship at Oberá, and his first with Fiat, leading team-mate José Manuel Urcera to a Equipo Petronas Fiat team 1-2, while a podium finish for Chevrolet’s Agustín Canapino sees him close up in the drivers’ standings.
Urcera started from pole position alongside the Toyota of Matías Rossi after the two drivers won the split-grid qualifying races in the morning, with Llaver and Canapino starting on row two.
Urcera led at the start, while Rossi fell behind Llaver and Canapino, while the safety car was deployed early on following a collision in the mid-field between Bruno Etman, Lucas Benamo and Facundo Conta.
The safety car withdrew on lap four, and Canapino began his charge, passing Llaver for second on lap eight and set about chasing down Urcera for the lead.
The two then duelled through the mid-portion of the race, with the race defining move coming on Lap 16, as the two made contact, dropping them behind Llaver’s Fiat Linea, with Urcera now down to second and Canapino in third, which would remain the order until the finish.
Mariano Werner finished fourth and was the best-placed of the Peugeot Total Argentina team, with Leonel Pernía the top Renault driver in fifth in his Fluence GT.
Esteban Guerrieri was the top finisher for Toyota Team Argentina in ninth.
Renault’s Facundo Ardusso continues to lead the standings heading to the next round of the championship, the 200km endurance event in Buenos Aires on July 31st.
Ardusso leads Chevrolet’s Agustín Canapino in the standings by a reduced margin of six points, with Renault team-mates Leonel Pernía and Emiliano Spataro third and fourth, 14 and 24 points behind respectively.
Fiat’s 1-2 was the best result for the Italian marque of the season and moves them clear of Toyota into fourth in the manufacturers’ championship, while Renault extends their lead over Peugeot by one point at the top of the table.
