José Manuel Urcera claims pole for Fiat at the Buenos Aires 200km

Equipo Fiat Petronas driver José Manuel Urcera has claimed pole position for the 2016 edition of the 200km of Buenos Aires at the Autódromo Oscar y Juan Gálvez.

Urcera, who will share his Linea with Valdeno Brito in tomorrow’s endurance event of the Argentinian Super TC 2000 Championship, lapped the circuit with a time of 1:17.880 in the third part of qualifying, just under a tenth of a second faster than the Chevrolet Cruze of Agustín Canapino and Guillermo Ortelli.

Team Peugeot Total Argentina driver Damian Fineschi qualified third in the car he’ll share with Galid Osman tomorrow, just under two-tenths behind Urcera’s time, with the Renault Fluence GT of Leonel Pernía and Julián Santero qualifying in fourth.

Mariano Werner, sharing his Peugeot 408 with two-time champion Néstor Girolami, who now competes in the Brazilian Stock Car Championship, was fifth fastest, 0.251 seconds down.

Last year’s winning pair of Matías Rossi and Gabriel Ponce de León qualified in eighth position in their Toyota Team Argentina-run Corolla, with team-mates Esteban Guerrieri and Ricardo Zonta ninth.

Championship leader Facundo Ardusso was tenth, sharing his Renault with Franco Vivian this weekend, while big names outside the top ten include former champion and Formula 1 star Norberto Fontana, whose Chevrolet Cruze shared with Daniel Serra will start 14th, while the privateer Peugeot of Luciano Farroni and WTCC stalwart Tom Coronel will start 18th.

The race is due to get underway at 11:45 ART on Sunday 31st July.
