No action against Mehdi Bennani, grid confirmed
Mehdi Bennani has escaped penalty in Marrakech after a stewards’ investigation as to whether the Moroccan set his best time in Qualifying 2 under the yellow flags, with the officials deeming no action is required.
Bennani qualified in fifth for his home race, after first setting the fourth fastest time in Qualifying 2 which saw him move into the top five shootout.
The Sébastien Loeb Citroën driver would go on to set the fifth fastest time for his home race.
With the results of qualifying now final, and following the earlier exclusions for RC Lada’s Yann Ehrlacher and Honda’s Ryo Michigami, the grid for Race 1 is now confirmed, with last year’s opening race winner Tom Coronel starting on pole position in his ROAL Motorsport Chevrolet ahead of the Campos Chevrolet of Esteban Guerrieri.
The main race still sees Tiago Monteiro on pole after having set the fastest time ahead of Polestar’s Néstor Girolami and Monteiro’s Honda team-mate Norbert Michelisz.
