Diego Azar storms out of race weekend following team dispute

Escudería FE privateer driver Diego Azar has taken a surprise decision, leaving Potrero de los Funes after the first two practice sessions and will head back home, visibly upset with his car’s lack of reliability.

Following mechanical issues in both practice sessions, the 23-year-old graduate from TC 2000 junior series packed up and decided not to take part in the weekend.

Azar has threatened to leave the team and look for somewhere else to continue his first season in Super TC 2000.

“I’ve had lots of mechanical failures, also lots of bad luck. The team was not responsible in all of them, but since the very beginning of the season, I couldn’t run a single session on track without an issue,” he said to TouringCarTimes.

“I felt my patience gone after I went out on track for second practice and suffered new issues. I felt so upset that I went to the garage and said ‘guys, we can’t fix this on time for the qualy, this makes no sense. I want to go gome’.”

Afterwards, he explained further: “I was going to be really slow on track, and we had so many failures that I wasn’t going to feel secure onboard. Any issue in this circuit, even a simple one like an hydraulic problem in your steering can lead to a heavy crash into the wall.”

Escudería FE’s privateer entry is led by ex Super TC 2000 driver Rubén Salerno, who expressed on his Twitter account: “I want to apologize Diego, both him and his family trusted in our team and so far we couldn’t satisfy their ambitions. We will work hard, because we are convinced we can sort this out. As for myself, I will do my best to keep him in the team.”

Azar is set to return to his hometown on Sunday morning to evaluate his options: “It’s true that I wanted to leave everything in that moment, but after I could cool down I decided to think wisely and consider different possibilities. I was a bit mad, but the team wants to sort this out.”
