Werner in points lead and calls for safety car ban from joker lap races
Mariano Werner has taken the Super TC 2000 championship lead after finishing second in both races held in San Martín, Mendoza, and has called to use double-yellow flags instead of the safety car when racing with joker laps.
“This is a strategy race, and as many strategy races around the world, they just use double-yellow flags. All drivers slow down, and nothing else for a determined amount of seconds. If we do so, the joker lap will have a real influence despite any possible incident,” said Werner to TouringCarTimes.
Werner heads the drivers’ championship on 47 points, five points ahead of Agustin Canapino, and thanks the team following a strong off-season.
“Our key is to keep scoring as many points as possible, grid penalties will move us backwards so we must do well in qualifying. The team has been brilliant, we’ve worked a lot to reach this pace, four new cars were built since January. But we have to evolve permanently,” said Werner.
“Super TC 2000 is in a great moment, so we have to evolve. I’ve finished second, fifth, sixth, all regular results, we need a bit more of potential to win, but we’re on the very right track. I’m back on the podium, and it feels great.”
