Honda lose weight for Vila Real, Citroën and Volvo stay on maximum

The latest compensation weight calculations for the World Touring Car Championship have the five Honda Civics running at 20kg less than at the Nürburgring two weeks’ ago, while Citroën and Volvo remain at full weight.

The qualifying and fastest laps from the three races at Monza, the Hungaroring and the Nürburgring have been used to calculate the compensation weight with which all competitors must carry at the next round of the championship at the end of this month, around the street circuit of Vila Real in Portugal.

The Volvo S60 and the Citroën C-Elysée have both been deemed to be as fast as each other to the tenth of a second, and so will carry the maximum allowed ballast of 80kg.

The Honda Civic WTCCs of Tiago Monteiro, Norbert Michelisz, Aurélien Panis, Ryo Michigami and Daniel Nagy have been assessed to be three-tenths of a second off, and so lose 10kg per tenth, running a reduced weight of 50kg, 20kg lighter than Germany.

The Chevrolet Cruzes of Esteban Guerrieri and Tom Coronel also drop weight, now running at 20kg of ballast instead of 30kg.

The lightest cars will be the two Lada Vesta WTCC of Kevin Gleason and Yann Ehrlacher, running ballast-free at the 1,100kg base weight, the the Russian cars over a second from Volvo and Citroën’s best pace.
