José María López set for touring car return in Super TC 2000’s Buenos Aires 200km
Three-time World Touring Car Championship drivers’ champion José María López has been confirmed to race for Toyota Gazoo Racing Argentina at this year’s Buenos Aires 200km in October, where he’ll co-drive with 2013 champion Matías Rossi in a Toyota Corolla.
The 34-year-old Argentinian started his campaign in the World Endurance Championship this year, joining Toyota Gazoo Racing team in the hybrid TS050 after Citroen withdrew from the WTCC at the end of 2016.
The 200km race has been held since 2004, with a two-year hiatus in 2012-2013. The 2011 edition took place at the La Plata circuit, and 2015 at Toay, but otherwise has taken place at Buenos Aires’ ‘Oscar y Juan Gálvez’ track, which has varied its layout through different seasons.
Toyota Gazoo Racing Argentina has yet to announce the rest of the invited co-drivers for the race to join the rest of its line-up of Gabriel Ponce de León, Matías Milla and Bruno Etman.
The Buenos Aires 200km race is scheduled for October 1st. Toyota Gazoo Racing Argentina took their last win at this event in 2015 with Rossi paied with Ponce de León.
