Agustín Canapino mindful of tyre wear ahead of the feature race

Despite his victory in the Super TC2000 qualifying race of yesterday at Termas de Río Hondo, Chevrolet YPF’s driver Agustín Canapino says everything can change on Sunday. Canapino, as most of the drivers, made use of the soft tyres set that is also mandatory to be used in part of the feature race.

“It was a spectacular Saturday, the team did a great work on the car, so we could do a great comeback from the first two rounds of the season,” said Canapino to TouringCarTimes.com.

“This race is very particular, nothing has been said, everything is yet to come. Guerrieri pushed me hard during the entire race, so I couldn’t look after the soft tyres as much as I would have liked to. But it’s part of the rules and strategy. Those who haven’t used their softs today will have very strong pace tomorrow.”

The Chevrolet driver would like to see the soft compound tyre only be used for a longer race in order for tyre management to play a bigger role.

“With this compound these cars would be amazing. We (Argentina) are at the end of the world and we have the most powerful front-drive touring cars in the world. We still haven’t realised that, and we must appreciate it. I would introduce one-hour long races with the soft compound, so the drivers will have manage, and different strategies would come up,” said Canapino.
