Rob Huff fastest in the second practice session at Vila Real
Münnich Motorsport’s Rob Huff was fastest of all in the second free practice session at Vila Real, leading the two Hondas of Norbert Michelisz and Tiago Monteiro.
The session was an uneventful session in comparison to this morning’s, with no red flags or major incidents, with just an escape road jaunt for Ryo Michigami in the Honda near the end of the session.
The Honda of Norbert Michelisz led throughout the majority of the 45-minute practice, with the Hungarian getting to the low 1:58s before the half-way point, leading his team-mate Tiago Monteiro.
The two Hondas were soon split by Huff in last year’s championship-winning Citroën C-Elysée, with the Briton four-tenths from Michelisz’s pace.
A final run near the end of the session on new tyres saw Huff close to just six-hundredths of a second, before going faster on his second lap and into the 1:57s, with Michelisz improving but finishing behind by 27-thousandths of a second, while the two drivers over half a second clear of Monteiro.
Championship leader Nicky Catsburg was fourth fastest and the best-placed of the Volvos, leading team-mate Thed Björk.
Esteban Guerrieri, who again chose to never try out the new joker lap, meaning his first experience won’t be until the race itself, was sixth quickest, the only Chevrolet in the race following the withdrawal of Tom Coronel after his crash this morning.
The top ten were completed by the privateer Citroën of Mehdi Bennani, the Volvo of Néstor Girolami, the Honda of Ryo Michigami and Tom Chilton’s Citroën.
Qualifying is next and is scheduled for 15:30 WEST.
