Néstor Girolami flummoxed by steering issue with his Volvo

Néstor Girolami has said a steering problem with his Volvo S60 that the Polestar Cyan Racing team have been unable to resolve has been the cause of his fall down the order since Hungary.

The Argentinian had made the top five shootout in the first five races, but struggled in Germany, and again at the Vila Real street circuit.

“I’ve had a problem with the steering all weekend, we don’t know what it is, but I’ve had a big vibration when I turn,” he said to TouringCarTimes.

“To have this kind of problem on a street circuit is really tough as you don’t have the confidence in the car, and when you don’t have the confidence it’s difficult to go fast.

“We need to know what happened this weekend, the problem is really strange. We had it in Germany as well before the puncture. Hopefully we can find the problem before my home race, as I know the circuit really well, so it should be a good opportunity for a great result.”

Girolami was running in third place in the opening race, but lost out on the joker lap after he was stuck behind the Honda of Ryo Michigami, and dropped to ninth after losing time to the chasing pack.

“For me it’s a been a really frustrating weekend, but the team did a fantastic job. We won the MAC3 and all cars were in the points,” he added.
