Facundo Ardusso: “Pole position was the key to the win”

Renault Sport’s Facundo Ardusso was overjoyed after claiming the championship lead following his night race win at the street circuit in Santa Fe.

The Argentinian claimed a comfortable pole position, and led the way throughout the race, at times having to defend hard against four-time champion Matías Rossi for the lead.

“It was a perfect Saturday with pole position and victory, and also having the car untouched for tomorrow’s race”, said the race winner to TouringCarTimes.

“After the start, when I opened a gap over Leonel Pernía, I thought it could be a quiet race, but it wasn’t. It was hard to keep Rossi behind when Leonel retired, and also the last safety car was not helpful.

“Pole position made things easier, anyway. My brakes suffered a lot, and at the last restart of the race it was really tricky to brake and turn. However, Matías Rossi had the same problem, so it didn’t change things much,” he added.

Looking ahead to tomorrow’s afternoon “daytime” race, Ardusso expressed: “We did well today; the car is capable of doing well, but the track will change a lot, so we have to adjust.”
