Tiago Monteiro discharged from hospital ahead of planned return

Championship leader Tiago Monteiro has been discharged from hospital in Portugal and allowed home, as the 41-year-old Portuguese driver works towards a return for the next round of the WTCC in three weeks’ time.

The Honda driver crashed out at Turn 1 at the Circuit de Catalunya on Wednesday 13th September, and spent the next week in hospital in Spain, before being moved to Portugal late last week.

Monteiro is now on a strict exercise regime as he prepares himself for a return behind the wheel at the Ningbo circuit in China on October 14th.

The Honda driver leads the championship by 12 points over Volvo Polestar Cyan Racing driver Thed Björk, with still four weekends left, meaning 240 points are still on offer.
