Emiliano Spataro: ”A victory impossible to imagine”

Renault Sport’s Emiliano Spataro was overwhelmed after winning a thrilling Buenos Aires 200km race. Joined by Christian Ledesma as co-driver for this event, the duo won from 17th on the grid, claiming the lead on the last lap.

“We decided to start on wets considering lots of factors; Christian was barely able to drive the car during the weekend following his crash on Friday, we were starting at the back and it was a good idea to try to risk it,” said Spataro to TouringCarTimes.com.

Co-driver Ledesma is not new to Renault Sport as he was their regular driver in 2015 and 2016.

“He was the perfect choice, he knows the team and the car. We all wanted him to share the car with me. Even today in the morning, I told him to stay strong and do what he does better. You’ll always have chances of succeeding with a guy like him,” said Spataro.

The weather played in the favour to the Renault duo during the race, with Spartaro admitting that they were lucky.

“We were lucky to have a bit of rain, to be honest, we didn’t race to win in the beginning. We started thinking only in finishing as high as possible. Things went well, we made the right decisions, and all that boosts your confidence and allows you to get a win like this,” said Spataro.
