Volvo win the MAC3 time trial in China to close to two points from Honda

Polestar Cyan Racing have won the MAC3 time trial post-qualifying race at the Ningbo circuit in China, and have closed to within two points from Honda in the manufacturers’ championship after their qualifying points for pole and third are counted as well.

The Swedish manufacturer’s three cars of Nicky Catsburg, Néstor Girolami and Thed Bjork comfortably outpaced the Honda drivers over the two-lap heat by almost five seconds, with a combined time of 4:05.191 at the Ningbo International Speedpark.

The three Hondas, with Gabriele Tarquini joining Honda for MAC3 for the first time, were five seconds slower, and so scored just eight points towards the manufacturers’ title.

With Néstor Girolami also securing pole, Volvo outscored Honda by two points in qualifying as well, reducing the six-point deficit to two ahead of tomorrow’s races.
