China Race 2 abandoned due to wet weather, Néstor Girolami awarded win

Néstor Girolami has been classed as the winner of the second WTCC race in China, after the race was aborted after four laps behind the safety car due to heavy rainfall at the Ningbo circuit.

Between the break between races, the rain had begun to intensify, with the officials opting to start the race behind the safety car again.

One driver who failed to make the start was Münnich Citroën’s Rob Huff, whose car had been too heavily damaged in an incident with Tom Chilton in Race 1.

The race was called after three laps running behind the safety car, with Girolami classed as the victor.

With two laps completed, technically half-points will be awarded, which will put Volvo’s Thed Björk in the lead of the championship, half a point ahead of Honda’s Tiago Monteiro, with Norbert Michelisz 1.5 further behind, subject to official confirmation.
