Norbert Michelisz fastest again in second free practice in Macau

Honda’s Norbert Michelisz continued a positive showing at the Circuito da Guia in Macau. The Hungarian encored from yesterday, emerging fastest ahead of a trio of Citroëns, with Sébastien Loeb Racing’s Mehdi Bennani ahead of Münnich Motorsport’s Rob Huff and SLR’s Tom Chilton.

The session was red flagged twice as Daniel Nagy once again stopped just outside the pit lane two minutes after the session started, although he was able to get back out on track after the incident. Polestar Cyan Racing’s Nestor Girolami stopped on track a further five minutes into the session, stopping his S60 in the third sector with a technical issue.

Michelisz led the way from the very beginning, but Chilton took the lead away from the Hungarian halfway through the session. Most drivers went back out on track with eight minutes to go, in which occasion Michelisz improved and set the fastest lap ahead of Bennani, Huff and Chilton.

Nicky Catsburg was the fastest Volvo driver in fifth, just ahead of championship leader Thed Björk, who improved massively compared to yesterday and was sixth fastest ahead of Honda’s Esteban Guerrieri.

Series returnee Ma Qing Hua finished eighth in his SLR Citroën, ahead of Honda’s Ryo Michigami and SLR’s John Filippi, who demoted ROAL Motorsport’s Tom Coronel to eleventh on the last lap of the session.

Qualifying is scheduled for 13:25 local time.
