Mehdi Bennani to use “full risk” strategy in Macau main race

Mehdi Bennani dominated the opening race at Macau, the Sébastien Loeb Racing driver leading the field from lights to flag. The Moroccan admits he was lucky to get pole position for the opening race.

“I didn’t manage one lap in Q2, but it was enough to be tenth and I was very lucky to be on pole for the opening race,” said the Citroën driver. “I think I have the best win in my career because to win in Macau is something very special.”

Bennani does not rule himself out of contention for the world championship, as he is 33.5 behind championship leader Thed Björk.

“We are still challenging at the top of the world championship. This win surely gives me more confidence, so I think I will push and score points tomorrow.”

Bennani’s confidence also means he will try to attack as much as he can in order to bag some more points and be fully in contention for the championship for the last race of the season in Qatar.

“Since the weekend started we have been fighting for the top positions, so I will choose full risk to try to score points. At the end if you crash, it’s crash, but if you score points then it’s much better for the championship. There’s only one race left, so tomorrow I think I will have to be on maximum attack and see what happens at the end.”
