Tom Chilton says Esteban Guerrieri’s mistake was karma

Tom Chilton was third in the Macau main race. The Citroën driver was fighting with Honda’s Norbert Michelisz before Esteban Guerrieri managed to overtake him. This started an intense battle, which lasted until a last-lap mistake by the Argentinian that allowed Chilton back through.

“What happened to Esteban on the last lap I think is karma actually,” said the Sébastien Loeb Racing driver to TouringCarTimes. “I think Honda told him to back me up at the hairpin every single lap. I was losing three seconds at the hairpin every time and actually I’m quite happy he made a mistake. He tried braking about 11 metres too late. I was a sitting duck, fuming because I was faster than both of the guys in front of me but I’m happy I got back past one of them.”

Honda’s Esteban Guerrieri completely refused Chilton’s allegations, saying his goal was not disturbing team-mate Michelisz at the Melco hairpin.

“There is not much to say about that. I was just taking it easy to avoid the risk of hitting my team-mate. I can’t exactly tell you how much I was backing off but it’s part of the game in racing. I completely refuse those allegations from Chilton, I simply don’t care. “
