Matías Rossi wins qualifying race in General Roca

Toyota Gazoo Racing Argentina driver Matías Rossi won the Argentinian Super TC 2000 qualifying race at General Roca, the 11th round of the season. He was followed by reigning champion Agustín Canapino of Chevrolet YPF and Damián Fineschi of privateer team RAM Racing on the podium.

Rossi started from pole position, joined on the front row by RAM Racing’s Damian Fineschi, whose car was recovered after a heavy shunt on free practice by the morning.

Rossi held onto the lead at the start, followed by Fineschi and Canapino, leaving Citroën Total Racing’s Esteban Guerrieri behind in fourth.

A heavy collision on the main straight left Carlos Javier Merlo of Fiat Petronas, Facundo Chapur of Team Peugeot Total Argentina and Gabriel Ponce de León of Toyota Gazoo Racing Argentina out of the race, as the safety car came out. Toyota driver León ran wide entering the main straight and spun back on track, Merlo crashed into him, smashing the driver’s door, as Chapur collected both cars. However, the three competitors were unhurt.

The positions remained more or less the same after the safety car restart as Rossi later crossed the finishing line first ahead of Canapino and Fineschi. Guerrieri was fourth, followed by Ardusso and Pernía, as Werner finished in seventh, out of the points. Muñoz Marchesi was eigth followed by the Renaults of Luis José Di Palma and Ignacio Julián, rounding off the top 10.

The feature race will be held on Sunday, scheduled for 12:15 AR time (GMT -3), in which Rossi will start on pole position, followed by Canapino and Fineschi.
