Both Zengõ drivers punished for bizarre practice smash in Qatar

The two Zengõ Motorsport Honda drivers have been given reprimands after they both hit each other whilst warming their tyres in the second practice session at Losail, in an incident which also saw Yann Ehrlacher’s RC Motorsport Lada sustain damage.

The two Hungarian drivers, Daniel Nagy and Zsolt Szabo, were on their out-lap at the start of the second practice session when the incident occured, with Szabo swerving in avoidance as Nagy abruptly began to warm his tyres after turning left, with Szabo colliding with Ehrlacher’s Lada (see below).

Nagy was able to continue on, while Szabo was out with rear-left suspension damage after clipping Ehrlacher’s Lada.

Ehrlacher returned to the pit lane and missed half the session as the team repaired his Vesta WTCC, with the Frenchman’s car suffering two punctures on the right-hand side.

The Zengõ drivers were called to the stewards and punished for “Forcing another driver (off track) by (an) unexpected driving manoeuvre and causing a collision”.

Each received a driving infringement reprimand for their part in the incident.
