Mehdi Bennani given penalty for contact with Esteban Guerrieri in Race 1

Sébastien Loeb Racing’s Mehdi Bennani has been given a ten second penalty after contact with Münnich Motorsport driver Esteban Guerrieri in Race 1.

The Moroccan had finished in fifth position, with Guerrieri going on to finish seventh, with the Argentinian very frustrated with the incident, and took to speaking to Bennani during the red flag stoppage on lap three.

“I got hit by Mehdi, not deliberate of course,” said Guerrieri. “I’ll see what the stewards do, because in the end I lost two positions.”

The stewards have deemed Bennani at fault for the contact, and with the ten second penalty, Bennani drops to ninth in the final order, one-thousandth of a second ahead of John Filippi’s Campos Cupra TCR.

Promoted in his place is WRT’s Gordon Shedden, the two Münnich Hondas of Guerrieri and Yann Ehrlacher, and the DG Sport Peugeot 308TCR of Aurélien Comte.
