René Rast confirmed as a wild card entry for the Nürburgring

Current DTM champion René Rast has been confirmed as a wild card entry for the Nürburgring round of the World Touring Car Cup, racing an Audi RS 3 LMS for Team WRT.

“Meeting with the world’s best drivers in a touring car now is fantastic,” said Rast. “I’m looking forward to competing against four world champions and many other title winners.”

“It’s an honour to confirm René Rast’s participation at WTCR Race of Germany,” said François Ribeiro, head of Eurosport Events, the WTCR promoter. “It can only raise the sporting level of what is already a super-highly competitive grid.”

Rast’s entry will also mean that 2017’s WTCC, TCR International Series and DTM champions will compete against each other for the first time. “This will be the first meeting of three touring car giants, a great message for all touring car fans around the world,” added Ribeiro.

The 31-year-old has competed regularly at the Nürburgring Nordschleife will be on a double mission that weekend, also competing in the 24-hour race with an Audi R8 LMS.

“René will drive our GT3 sports car and additionally tackle the challenge in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup,” says Chris Reinke, Head of Audi Sport customer racing. “This enhances Audi Sport customer racing’s pinnacle event of the season surrounding the 24-hour race by another attraction.”

The Race of Germany, running on the full Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit, takes place from 10-12 of May.
