Benjamin Lessennes and Denis Dupont given penalties in Hungary Race 1

Boutsen Ginion Racing driver Benjamin Lessennes and the Comtoyou Audi driver Denis Dupont have been given ten-second time penalties for separate incidents in the first race in Hungary.

Lessennes, who had crossed the line tenth, was given a penalty after a collision with the rival Honda Civic of James Thompson on lap eight at Turn 1, which was the Briton drop down to eventually finish 13th.

The Belgian’s penalty drops him to 14th in the final order, with Mehdi Bennani in the SLR Volkswagen promoted to tenth.

“It was the usual stuff,” explained Thompson to TouringCarTimes. “‘I’m sorry, I locked up and hit you’. Unfortunately, a lot of people say sorry, I hit you. I raced with Thed (Björk) for three-four laps and didn’t even touch, and he said he thought I’d seen him, well, if you locked up, it doesn’t matter.

“Whether it was deliberate or not, it was for tenth place, which is not where we want to be. If you’re around the mid-field you’re going to get battered and clattered and there’s going to be a few races where you don’t finish.”

Dupont’s penalty was for five separate infractions in respect of track limits, which drops the Audi driver from 21st to 22nd, behind the Zengõ Cupra TCR of Zsolt Szabo.
