Yvan Muller leads Hyundai 1-2-3 in the second practice session in Hungary
Yvan Muller set a flyer right at the end of the second and final practice session at the Hungaroring to lead YMR team-mate Thed Björk, with Norbert Michelisz completing an all Hyundai top three.
Yann Ehrlacher set the early pace in the Münnich Motorsport Honda Civic, but he was soon outpaced by FP1 pace-setter Norbert Michelisz in the BRC Racing Hyundai i30 N TCR, with a time of 1:53.140, half a second off his earlier time in the morning.
A full course yellow was instigated after ten minutes, when the front wheel cowling from Frédéric Vervisch’s Comtoyou Racing Audi RS 3 LMS came loose at Turn 11 and required recovery by one of the marshals.
Soon after, it was YMR’s Thed Björk who went fastest in his Hyundai with a time of 1:52.790, a tenth away from Michelisz’s FP1 time, with Michelisz himself improving to come to three-tenths behind the reigning WTCC champion.
In the final moments of the session, the cars were out for pre-qualifying set-up runs, with Yvan Muller taking the top spot on the time sheets with a time of 1:52.707, less than a tenth of a second faster than his team-mate, with Michelisz third, with three Hyundais completing the top three.
Muller’s nephew Ehrlacher was best-of-the-rest in the Münnich Honda, with Rob Huff the best-placed of the two Volkswagens in fifth.
Aurélien Comte followed up on his quick FP1 pace with eighth in the DG Sport Peugeot 308TCR, while the fastest Audi was that of Nathanael Berthon in 12th, 1.3 seconds off the pace, with Norbert Nagy the quickest of the Cupras in 13th.
Many drivers had laps deleted for exceeding the track limits, including WRT pair of Gordon Shedden and Jean-Karl Vernay, Münnich’s Esteban Guerrieri, Campos’ John Filippi and Boutsen Ginion Honda driver Tom Coronel.
Next up is qualifying at 12:30 CET.
