Thed Björk glad to be back in front with Germany pole position

YMR driver Thed Björk has said he’s glad to be back running at the front after an unlucky weekend two weeks’ ago at the Hungaroring, after taking his second pole position of the 2018 World Touring Car Cup season.

The Hyundai driver outqualified team-mate Yvan Muller by 0.078 seconds to put his i30 N TCR on top in the first qualifying session of the meeting, putting to bed the troubles from Hungary, where he struggled throughout the weekend.

“Same car, same driver, it’s just that some weekends don’t work,” said Björk to TouringCarTimes. “Here, I liked the tricky conditions to work with the car. Qualifying wasn’t easy, as that was the first time we’d gone flat out on the slicks. There’s some BoP kicking in as everyone else’s cars are now lighter and a bit lower as well, but this track is really special and my car just feels good.”

Björk says there’s some concern ahead of the race, where the TCR cars are handing a strong tow to their chasing rivals, and with Audi proving to have the best top speed with their low drag coefficient and reduced minimum weight, they could well be a threat in the race.

“Even though the track is long, there’s no overtaking until you get to the long straight. There you have all the possibilities but you don’t want to be first in the train,” explained Björk

“The TCR cars tow a lot more than the TC1 cars, so if I can do a clean lap maybe I can be far enough in front before the straight, if not, maybe I can just take it back on the next lap.”
