Bernardo Llaver wins qualifying race in Potrero de los Funes
Bernardo Llaver of Chevrolet YPF won the Super TC 2000 qualifying race at Potrero de los Funes, San Luis, starting from pole position. Martín Moggia finished second for Renault Sport and Toyota Gazoo Racing Argentina’s Julián Santero finished third.
Llaver started the race strongly and was followed by Moggia and Santero, both promoted to second and third respectively on the grid due to grid penalties for the top eight drivers in the standings.
Llaver kept the lead at the start, despite being challenged by Moggia, while Santero remained in third ahead of Citroën Total Racing driver José Manuel Urcera. These four pulled away from the rest of the field as the race progressed.
Facundo Chapur of Citroën Total Racing was looking to reduce the gap in the championship standings to Ardusso while in fifth but he retired on lap three due to a technical issue.
Agustín Canapino of Chevrolet YPF and Team Peugeot Total Argentina’s Néstor Girolami had to start from the last row following a penalty during qualifying and battled to recover positions through the field. Both managed to reach 14th and 15th respectively before the chequered flag dropped.
Urcera came home in fourth followed by privateer Sportteam driver Matías Milla. Damián Fineschi was sixth in his factory Toyota Corolla, series’ champion Facundo Ardusso of Renault Sport finished seventh ahead of his team-mate Emiliano Spataro. Team Peugeot Total Argentina’s Matías Muñoz Marchesi finished ninth and Carlos Javier Merlo, of privateer M&M Group, rounded off the top ten.
Tomorrow’s feature race will start at 11:55 local time, set for 18 laps or 50 minutes.
