Gordon Shedden: “It was great to be able to fight”

Team WRT driver Gordon Shedden scored his best result in the World Touring Car Cup so far with fourth in Race 1 at Zandvoort, and briefly held third after a daring but ultimately unsuccessful pass on fellow Briton Rob Huff at Tarzan.

Shedden had started third but lost a spot to the fast-starting Peugeot 308TCR of Aurélien Comte at the start of the race, and was battling with Huff’s Volkswagen throughout the race, making a lunge down the inside at Tarzan, but Huff was able to get back ahead of the Audi on the exit.

“That was great fun, it was awesome,” Shedden said to TouringCarTimes. “Huffy got a big wobble on at the corner and I just found myself going up the inside, it was a safe enough move as we both going to get around. It was worth it to go for a podium.

“It was great to be able to fight and have a go at racing for the first time this year, long may it continue.”

Huff saw Shedden’s move as optimistic at best and felt he’d done well to avoid a collision.

“Gordon made a bit of an optimistic move into Turn 1, and if I’d taken the racing line we’d have both been in the gravel,” said Huff. “I was quite pleased with myself to avoid that, and also that JK (Vernay) didn’t get through as well.”
