James Thompson says reversed grid pole was the target at Zandvoort

James Thompson will start today’s Race 2 at Zandvoort from pole position in his Münnich Motorsport Honda Civic TCR after setting the tenth fastest time in the morning qualifying session, his first reversed grid pole position since Morocco 2016.

The Briton will lead off the DG Sport Compétition Peugeot 308TCR of Aurélien Comte for the start of Race 2, with team-mates Yann Ehrlacher and Esteban Guerrieri not far behind in fifth and sixth.

“To be honest that was our goal, we were not so confident with the car yesterday so I’m pleased,” he said.

“The boys worked hard, we made a few gains and we were in the top 12. It was a great result for the team yesterday and with three races per weekend they’ve all got to be won the way the rules are. It’s good for the team to have all three cars in the top ten, and P10 is exciting and gives us something to play for today. It puts smiles on the boys faces because they work so hard during these long weekends.”
