Thed Björk hopes to be out on Sunday despite heavy damage in Race 1
YMR’s Thed Björk hopes to be out on track on Sunday, despite being the first car to run into the two Sébastien Loeb Racing Volkswagens in the start-line crash at Vila Real which wiped out ten cars.
The 2017 WTCC champion slammed into the battling pair of Volkswagens as they smashed into the Armco barrier at Turn 2, with Mehdi Bennani’s car landing on top of Björks car.
“One of the Golfs landed on me, but my car was very strong, with the fire as well,” said Björk to TouringCarTimes. “I have no idea if it’s repairable. I did everything I could to save the car, I hit the fire extinguisher straight away, but couldn’t get out of the car so had to kick out the window.”
The YMR team have already begun working on the car with the aim of taking part in tomorrow’s qualifying session at 09:00 WEST / 10:00 CEST.
