Matías Rossi wins San Juan qualifying race from pole position
Toyota Gazoo Racing Argentina’s Matías Rossi won the Super TC 2000 qualifying race at the Eduardo Copello circuit in San Juan. He was joined on the podium by Team Peugeot Total Argentina’s Fabián Yannantuoni and YPF Chevrolet’s Agustín Canapino.
Rossi took pole position and had his team-mate Julián Santero on the front row while series champion and standings leader Facundo Ardusso had a minor shunt during qualifying and qualified 12th, ending a streak of 14 consecutive Q3 sessions. Ardusso finished outside of the points.
Rossi claimed the start of the race while Santero tried to challenged him. The Toyota team-mate was instead passed by Yannantuoni as he went wide and Agustín Canapino of YPF Chevrolet was also able to get past into fourth.
Rossi, Yannantuoni, Santero and Canapino quickly pulled away from the rest of the field. Santero gave up third place to Canapino on lap two, with the latter went hunting for Yannantuoni in second position.
Santero dropped back not long after that due to mechanic issues, losing nearly ten places before the end of the race. That allowed Canapino’s team-mate Bernardo Llaver to take fourth position.
Rossi won the race comfortably ahead of Yannantuoni and Canapino. Llaver was fourth ahead of Pernía and Team Peugeot Total Argentina’s Matías Muñoz Marchesi. Chapur finished in seventh, while Mariano Werner of Team Peugeot Total Argentina rounded off the top eight.
The main race of the weekend starts at 12:00 local time.
