Matías Rossi claims victory in Toyota’s 250th race

Matías Rossi claimed victory for Toyota Gazoo Racing Argentina in their 250th Super TC 2000 race. He won the feature race at the San Juan circuit ahead of Chevrolet YPF’s Agustín Canapino and Team Peugeot Total Argentina’s Fabián Yannantuoni.

Rossi pulled away at the start from pole position ahead of Yannantuoni and the Chevrolet-pair of Canapino and Bernardo Llaver, the same order as they started from the grid.

Standings leader Facundo Ardusso had to retire due to an engine failure on the first lap, forcing the safety car on track.

Yannantuoni was overtaken by Canapino on lap eight, dropping him to third, right after the race restart.

Mariano Werner crashed into the wall at the “Loop” turn and retired from sixth place not long after, forcing the safety car out for second time.

When the race was resumed Canapino attacked Rossi, even making contact with the #17 Toyota but did not make his way past. Immediately after that, Martín Moggia of Renault Sport collected Franco Riva’s Renault Fluence of privateer squad Sportteam with both drivers retiring. The incident saw a third safety car session.

Canapino put hard pressure on Rossi for the lead in the last minutes of the race, but the Toyota driver held the lead. Néstor Girolami retired from seventh on lap 26 due to a technical issue.

Rossi won the race ahead of Canapino and Yannantuoni. Llaver was fourth followed by Renault driver Leonel Pernía, Citroën driver Facundo Chapur, Toyota driver Manuel Luque and Renault driver Emiliano Spataro.

Second place in this race has Canapino tied with Ardusso at the top of the standings, with both drivers on 101 points.

The next round of the Super TC 2000 will be held at Oberá on August 12th.
