Denis Dupont overjoyed with China turnaround

Denis Dupont had emerged as a front-runner in the field in the World Touring Car Cup, despite a dire start to the season with Comtoyou Racing, with the Royal Automobile Club of Belgium-backed driver scoring two podium finishes in two weekends.

Dupont had just one points finish in the first six events of the season, but from Ningbo the 25-year-old Belgian has finished in the points in every race, twice in third position in his Audi RS 3 LMS.

“We worked so well in the summer, we came to Ningbo and the car was really good,” said Dupont to TouringCarTimes. “We could attack and we’ve taken two podiums, but not only that but two podiums in the main race, which means every time we’ve been qualifying really strongly, and Comtoyou Racing have done an amazing job to get our Audi to work like this.

“If you’d told me before coming to China I was going to have two podiums and qualify twice on the second row, I’d have asked where do I sign?”

Reflecting on the start of the season in comparison, Dupont added:

“The first half of the season was very tough, but in those moments, you just need to keep your head down and know what you’re capable of and don’t doubt yourself. You need to look at the data and work out what’s wrong, what’s right, but always believe that you can do it.”
