José María López aiming for “aggressive” Buenos Aires race

Triple WTCC champion José María López has stated he will take the start of the 200 kilometre Buenos Aries race, acting as co-driver to Toyota Gazoo Racing Argentina’s Matías Rossi.

“We’ll have to do an aggressive race, we’ve taken lots of care to the car. We’ve sacrificed some pace in qualifying with our tyres. We planned to take care of the car so we have it in good shape for the race,” said López to TouringCarTimes.

Rossi drove the car during qualifying and managed to secure third place behind Renault Sport drivers Facundo Ardusso with co-driver Mariano Altuna and Emiliano Spataro with co-driver Luis José Di Palma.

“I felt I was at a great level yesterday, Matías (Rossi) is doing great as usual, I think it might depend a lot on me,” said López.

“I’m taking the start, so I will race against most of the regular drivers, there I could make a difference. I’d prefer to leave the car to Matías in first position. The length of our stints will depend lots on the development of the race.”
