Rob Huff says there’s much more time to find in the Volkswagen

Nine-time Macau winner Rob Huff says his 2:29.766 lap time, now the fastest time set around the 6.1km circuit in a TCR car, should fall considerably further in tomorrow’s two qualifying sessions.

Huff set the new lap record in the second practice session on new tyres, which the majority of the field had switched to, after Team WRT Audi driver Jean-Karl Vernay had flattered to deceive in the first practice, running with a fresh set of tyres on his RS 3 LMS.

“The car felt really good on the old tyres, the balance felt good, but obviously we put a new set of fronts on for FP2, and then it wasn’t even a fantastic lap, it was just a good lap, so even I was surprised by the time,” said Huff to TouringCarTimes.

“Obviously setting that time in practice doesn’t count for anything; we need to do that in qualifying, and if we could be half a second up the road again in qualifying that’d be perfect.

“Everyone’s got more pace to show, but the good news really is my lap wasn’t perfect, so there’s still more to come from me, and more to come from the car.”
