Frosty tension remains between Guerrieri and Muller after qualifying incident

For the second race weekend in a row, Münnich Honda’s Esteban Guerrieri and YMR’s Yvan Muller have had an altercation in qualifying, with Muller refusing to talk to Guerrieri in the pit lane afterwards.

Guerrieri had just completed his second-place grabbing lap in the first qualifying session at Macau, before backing off on his slowing down lap, during which Muller felt he had been hindered by the Argentinian and the two cars went side-by-side into Lisboa and made minor contact.

After qualifying, Guerrieri went up to address Muller, but was shooed away by both Muller and Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing manager Andrea Adamo.

“I went over to speak to him and ask when we were out of the car, and he told me I blocked him on my slowing down lap, but I didn’t see that. We’ll talk with him later about this for sure,” said Guerrieri.

“We will never know (if my lap would have been better),” said Muller evasively during the press conference. “My lap was not bad, I can be pleased with this qualifying. We’ll see what will happen in the race.”
