Rob Huff has no interest in helping title contenders at Macau

Rob Huff says his focus is on winning at Macau, and owes no one any favours in terms of the ongoing title battle, in which seven drivers are in mathematical contention this weekend.

Huff’s Macau pace could prove pivotal to the championship, with the points on offer for victory needed by some of his rivals to overhaul the gap to leader Gabriele Tarquini, who’s under threat now that he’s qualified outside of the top ten for Sunday’s races after crashing in qualifying.

Yvan Muller, Huff’s former team-mate and title rival, starts third for Race 1 on Saturday, and needs to make up ground in all three races in order to overhaul the 39-point gap to Tarquini.

“I don’t owe Yvan anything, I owe Tarquini even less,” said Huff to TouringCarTImes. “So ultimately, I don’t plan to do anything for anyone else than myself and my team, and I will try to win races, if they want to get involved in that, that’s up to them.

“When I won the championship, I had no help. When others have won the championship, I’ve seen them being helped by other drivers in other teams. I don’t believe that should be the way it should be , if you want to win the championship, you should earn it, and if they want to earn it by trying to get past me at Macau, that’s up to them.

“Yvan wouldn’t help me, and Gabriele would definitely not, and I don’t have an interest who wins it –I’ll be doing my damnest, elbows out to get the result for me and my team.”
