Esteban Guerrieri delighted with Macau success

Esteban Guerrieri declared himself delighted with a second win of the World Touring Car Cup season after emerging victorious from the season finale on the streets of Macau.

The Münnich Motorsport had gone into the weekend with an outside chance of taking the title, and showed the pace on his Honda Civic Type R TCR by qualifying on the front row for two of the three races.

The Argentine racer picked up sixth place in race one having lost places in the early stages, and then followed it up with fifth place in race two – leaving the third and final race as his best chance of adding to the win he secured at the Nordschleife earlier in the season.

A perfect start saw Guerrieri jump ahead of pole-man Rob Huff when the lights went out and he was then able to resist the pressure from behind all the way to the finish to give his team a second successive Guia race win; Huff having taken victory in a Citroen twelve month ago.

The results ensured Guerrieri ended the season third in the points having jumped ahead of Jean-Karl Vernay, Thed Björk and Pepe Oriola over the course of the weekend.

“It feels incredible to finish the season in this way,” he said. “I’ve won on the Nordschleife and at Macau; the two circuits everyone wants to win at, and I’m just so happy. The racing has been incredibly hard today, but also very fair and that’s also a very good thing.

“I’ve now had two seasons racing in World Touring Cars. Last year I won the last race [in Qatar] and finished fourth in the points, and now I’ve won the last race and taken third overall. I’ve had a fantastic car all weekend thanks to an incredible job by the team, and this means I can go into the winter on a very big high.”
