Tom Coronel “will be back” in 2019 WTCR

Tom Coronel says he will return to the World Touring Car Cup for the 2019 season, although the programme for the Dutch driver remains unknown.

Coronel took a best finish of seventh during the 2018 season racing a Honda Civic Type R TCR for the Boutsen Ginion Racing team but scored only one points finish in the second half of the year – ending up 23rd in the points in the process.

The 46-year-old was one of four drivers to try out the Romeo Ferraris-developed Alfa Romeo Giulietta prior to Christmas.

Despite the test going “extremely well”, Coronel hasn’t agreed a deal to drive the Italian car in 2019 and told De Telegraaf that his options remained open – stating simply that “I’ll be back next season”.

Wherever he races in 2019, Coronel’s car of choice is likely to retain a similar visual appearance, with the experienced racer having retained backing from primary sponsor DHL.
