Johan Kristoffersson aiming for race wins in debut WTCR season

Reigning World Rallycross and STCC champion Johan Kristoffersson is aiming for race wins in his debut WTCR season.

“The goal is to stay away from problems and claim victories,” said Kristoffersson.

While the 30-year-old is aiming high, he admits that his lack of experience of the international circuits will be a challenge.

“All competitors are new to me, just like all tracks but two, the Nürburgring and the Hungaroring. But it will be a fun challenge,” said Kristoffersson.

Kristoffersson will drive a Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR for Sébastien Loeb Racing in the 2019 WTCR alongside Rob Huff, Mehdi Bennani and a yet to be confirmed fourth driver.

“I feel comfortable with the team. They have a lot of experience. I have also got my engineer with me from my last season in rallycross, Richard Browne,” said Kristoffersson.

The Volkswagen driver will also meet former rivals from the STCC in the form of Lynk & Co Cyan Racing and 2017 WTCC champion Thed Björk.

“I look forward to the fights with Björk. He is a skilled driver and I hope for several Swedish victories during the year,” said Kristoffersson to TT.
